Puloniti Mojokerto Village – A groundbreaking innovation in the utilization of plastic waste to create beautiful furniture has brought prosperity to the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in Puloniti Mojokerto. The village has successfully generated significant additional income through sustainable furniture businesses that prioritize environmental preservation.

During an exclusive interview with the Head of Puloniti Village, Budi Yulianto, he revealed that the initiative stemmed from concerns about the adverse effects of plastic waste on the environment and the village’s sustainability. In seeking a sustainable solution, BUMDes Puloniti decided to collaborate with academics from the prestigious University of Islam Majapahit to develop creative business ideas.

The process of transforming plastic waste into exquisite furniture required in-depth research and expertise. Jenny Yudha Utama, an expert in the field and a lecturer in the Department of Government Science at the University of Islam Majapahit, assisted the village in designing and implementing effective recycling technologies. Through this collaboration, the village could turn plastic waste, once an environmental burden, into high-value economic products.

Discussing the benefits of this sustainable furniture business, Village Head Budi Yulianto stated, “Apart from reducing the negative environmental impact of plastic waste, we have also created new job opportunities for the villagers. Many residents have joined the production and sales processes, thus improving their well-being.”

The plastic waste-based furniture business has received positive responses from the market. The unique and eco-friendly products from BUMDes Puloniti have captured the attention of consumers both within and outside the village. Through online marketing campaigns and support from academics, the creative furniture from this village has even attracted interest from customers in major cities.

Jenny Yudha Utama added, “I am very proud to contribute to this project. The success of Puloniti Village in developing sustainable furniture businesses highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and communities in achieving sustainable development.”

This sustainable furniture business from plastic waste serves as an inspirational example for other villages in Indonesia to leverage local resources and manage them sustainably. Puloniti Mojokerto Village has proven that with innovation and the right collaboration, plastic waste can be transformed into promising business opportunities while simultaneously benefiting the environment and the local community.
